Welela is my favorite Makeba CD. A bit on the upbeat, dancable side, her voice smoother than ever. In addition, on Welela, Makeba sings two songs by the late composer and Minister of Culture in Guinea-Bissau, José Carlos Schwarz (Dju di Galinha, and A luta continua). Makebas voice suits them well, and is a great inroduction to his music/5(12).

Clearly, this joy comes across on WELELA, which is influenced by the popular music of Makeba's homeland. "Pata Pata (Touch Touch)" is an exultant tune about dancing, while "A Luta Continua" is a song of resilience that is dedicated to the people of Mozambique.
